The Company was founded in 1947 and now supplies a range of both portable gas detection products and fixed gas detection systems. GMI address a range of markets including Gas Supply and Distribution, Electric Supply, Water & Sewerage, Telecommunications, Petrochemical, Landfill, Shipping, Brewing and Distilling. The product range offered by GMI includes a wide range of gas measurement and detection fixed systems and portable instruments for the Brewing/Distilling, Chemical, Construction, Defence, Electricity, Gas, Nuclear, Oil, Shipping, Steel, Telecoms and Water industries. Analyte gases include Hydrocarbons, O2, CO, CO2, H2S, SO2, NO2, NO, etc. The total product package can include calibration, fleet management, training and repair services.
The company has been accredited to ISO-9001 by BSI since 1990 and now to ISO-9001:2000.
GMI is an approved test laboratory under the IECEX scheme for performance testing of gas detectors to IEC61779 part 1,4 and 5.

Appointed distributors in many countries of the world are able to provide comprehensive international sales and service support. Sales and service personnel across the UK provide effective customer service backed up by internal support teams.. The company has a Service Centre at Milton Keynes where all GMI portable gas detectors past and present are serviced and repaired. This facility holds a separate and dedicated spares stock to enable the company to offer a rapid turnaround on instrument servicing and repair for the UK customer base. A mobile repair facility supports this function providing on site service for larger users.
