Organisation Description
The Scottish Microelectronics Centre (SMC) is Scotland’s World class centre in the Semi-conductor and MEMS Industry creating value through innovation.
The SMC provides Research & Development, Analytical, Processing and Assembly activities for both internal and external customers and delivers specialist support to companies ranging from start-ups through to Multi National corporations.
From its state of the art facility at the University of Edinburgh campus, the SMC provides both office space and clean room facilities and houses an extensive tool set in the Clean room. The SMC has first class support programmes and networking opportunities with access to academic support from the University of Edinburgh.
Partnerships and collaboration with SMC enable our clients to reduce costs, timescales and risks associated with Research and development.
Services Offered
Business services:
SMC provides a specialist business and technology incubation facility which removes the barriers to companies entering the MEMS industry. SMC has an established track record of supporting successful start ups in the Industry. Through our support programmes and networking the SMC can assist companies to take ideas to the market in a timely and cost effective manner.
Specialised Skills and Facilities
Analytical tools:
With highly experienced staff the SMC houses analytical imaging and repair services for failure analysis with a rapid turnaround services. Fabless design and Fabs benefit from our services which are provided in a customer focused manner.
Process development:
The SMC research foundry provides services for the micro fabrication and MEMS industry, including post processing on commodity CMOS wafers. The SMC houses a comprehensive microelectronics and MEMS toolset, which is supported by highly experienced staff and enables SMC customers to accelerate process and product development. Processes can be flexibly delivered on multiple wafer sizes from 75 to 200mm.
Assembly:
SMC Assembly offers customers low volume, rapid turnaround packaging solutions with wafer dicing, wire bonding and packaging capability. We enable our customers to move quickly and reliably from design to functional device.
