Support to Operations Seminar

The University of Glasgow Innovation Network will be  holding a seminar with the MoD Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE).

The CDE is a Ministry of Defence Initiative to help suppliers to get support for their ideas to ensure that the best equipment, science and technology gets into our Armed Forces. It is the first point of contact for anyone with a disruptive technology, new process or innovation that has a potential defence application. The Centre acts as a gateway between the outside world and the Ministry of Defence, bringing together innovation and investment for the defence market, ensuring that our front-line forces have the best battle-winning technologies for the future.

Topics that will be covered will include:

  • Introduction to CDE
  • Support to Land, Sea and Air Operations 
  • The Counter Terrorism Perspective 
  • The MOD Technology Research Programme - current and future 
  • How to submit a proposal to CDE

Dr Chris Mace, Director General Science and Technology Operations, who is responsible for the delivery of the MoD Research Programme, including supplier engagement and Dr Helen Almey, Head of the Centre for Defence Enterprise will speak at the seminar.

ICT 2008

Venue: Convention Centre de Congrès de Lyon, Lyon, France
Date: 25 ~ 27 November 2008 

Europe's biggest research event for information and communication technologies, setting the ICT research agenda for the next decade.  The next ten years will see major transformations in the technological, industrial and business landscapes surrounding information and communication technologies, or "ICT".  ICT 2008 will set the agenda for ICT research and innovation in Europe during this crucial decade.

The event will host leading visionaries from academia and industry and will address topics as diverse as Europe's role in shaping the future internet, ICT's contribution to advancing the sustainability agenda and alternative research paths for future ICT components and systems. These and many other cutting-edge themes will be explored in depth at ICT 2008.


In FP7 there is over €2 Billion for ICT research, 2009-2010.

This year's ICT event - the largest research event in Europe in 2008 - will examine:

  • European Union priorities in ICT research for over €2 billion of funding available in 2009-2010
  • The major current technological trends which impact upon strategic research planning
  • Public research policies to stimulate research and innovation

Industrial
A growth market segment for the development of applied products.  Includes sectors such as Lighting or building control, personal medical equipment, POS terminals.  Customers include ABB and Johnson & Johnson
