A Delegation of visitors from Beibei District of Chongqing, China visited the SOA on Friday 13th March. The Chongqing Delegation was led by Mr Zhang Xijiang, the Deputy Director of the Chongqing Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Commission. He was accompanied by Mr Tan Qiang, the Director of the Foreign Trade and Economic Committee of Beibei District, Chongqing and members of both their staff.
They introduced representatives of five Chongqing Region companies:
- Chongqing Beibei Tianli Lamp Co Ltd, led by their Chairman, Mr Li Tianhua;
- Chongqing Intan Restae Development Co Ltd, led by their Chairman Mr Qing Xingwang;
- Chongqing Xinxing Gear Wheel Co Ltd, led by their Chairman Mr Li Xingming;
- Chongqing Xingguo Jinke Lamp Co Ltd, led by their Chairman Mr Deng Buguo;
- Liu Lifen, General Manager of the Chongqing Shalom Technology Co Ltd.
The above company representatives were accompanied by members of their staff.
Representatives from a number of Scottish optoelectronics organisations attended the meeting:
- Alan Henderson, Managing Director of Gas Sensing Solutions Ltd;
- Iain Kyle, Business Development Manager of Design LED Products Ltd;
- David Ruxton, CEO of OptoCap Limited;
- Erdan Gu, Research Team Leader from the Institute of Photonics, University of Strathclyde;
- Roy Clarke, Managing Director of Quantum Filament Technologies Ltd;
- David Simpson, Chairman of Freelight Ltd and Simpson Research Ltd;
- Gary Colquhoun, CEO of Fibre Photonics Ltd.
David Crossan of Scottish Development International welcomed everyone and gave an overview of the Scottish technology business scene. Mr Zhang Xijiang, then gave an overview of the business scene in Chongqing region.
Following brief introductions to the SOA and UKCPO by Alistair
Tweedie and Ian Tooley respectively, each of the Scottish and Chinese
companies had the opportunity to present an overview of their
activities and collaboration interests.
During lunch Mr Tan Qiang, Director of the Foreign Trade and Economic
Committee of Beibei District, Chongqing and Gary Colquhoun, SOA Council
Member signed a Cooperation Agreement which aims to further cooperation
between the two regions, see above photograph.
Following lunch, the Chongqing Delegates were taken on a visit to Intense, Hamilton, Lanarkshire, a diode laser manufacturer and solutions provider.
